Participation and Conduct
Will students need to sign an agreement?
Yes. All students will be required to sign a Student Behavior Contract as part of the registration process. This outlines expectations for behavior, attendance, and participation, helping create a respectful and productive co-op environment for everyone involved.
Do parents need to sign an agreement as well?
Yes. All parents will be required to sign a Parent Agreement as part of the registration process. This agreement outlines expectations for parent involvement, communication, student supervision, financial responsibility, and support for co-op policies.
We want to ensure that everyone is on the same page so our classes and community can function smoothly. Signing this agreement helps reinforce our shared commitment to creating a respectful, Christ-centered learning environment for all families.
What happens if a student disrupts class or causes problems?
If a student is disruptive or disrespectful, they will be asked to leave class and sit with the hall monitors until they are ready to participate respectfully again. If the issue continues:
-
A parent will be required to attend class with them, and
-
The student must re-watch the orientation video to review expectations.
If these steps do not resolve the problem, the student may be dismissed from the class. That said, we want to support students who are genuinely trying. If your child is struggling with behavior, please reach out to the teacher or a hall monitor so we can work together toward a solution before it becomes a bigger issue.
Are students expected to attend their classes regularly?
Yes. While we understand that illnesses, emergencies, and life circumstances sometimes come up, students should make every effort to attend class consistently. Regular attendance shows respect for the teacher’s time and helps create a stronger learning environment. Please don’t sign up for a class if you don’t plan to attend regularly.
If a student needs to miss a class, they should communicate directly with the teacher as early as possible. Some teachers may choose to dismiss students with excessive absences, especially if there has been no communication or follow-through.
Are students expected to participate in class?
Yes. Participation helps students get the most out of their co-op experience. We understand that some students may be quiet or anxious, and that’s okay—participation doesn’t mean being perfect or outgoing; it just means showing up ready to learn, staying engaged, and contributing respectfully as they’re able.
Will students have homework?
Some classes will have homework; others won’t. Homework expectations will be clearly outlined in the class description so families can make informed decisions.
If your student enrolls in a class that includes homework, they are expected to complete it to the best of their ability and turn it in on time. This helps keep the class running smoothly and shows respect for the teacher and classmates. If something comes up, please encourage your student to communicate with the teacher so expectations can be adjusted as needed.
Can students bring phones or devices to class?
To minimize distractions, we ask that phones and devices be kept put away during class time, unless the teacher gives permission for educational use. Repeated misuse may result in the phone being held by the hall monitor until class is over. If your student has a specific need to use a device, please discuss this with the teacher ahead of time.
What if my child struggles with behavior or focus?
We know that some students face challenges with attention, impulse control, or social dynamics, and we want to support those students with compassion. If your child may need extra guidance or structure to succeed, please communicate with the teacher in advance.
We’re here to work with you—our goal is not perfection, but growth and mutual respect. When families and teachers communicate openly, we’re usually able to find a path that works for everyone.
